Reprinted as an aid to genealogists, this publication was scanned from a document created by Work Projects Administration workers in 1940. Contents outline a listing of all types of records found in the Crockett County Courthouse at the time. In addition to expected subjects, the index includes numerous aberrant subjects such as tippler’s bonds, taxi licenses, dog pedigrees, whiskey shipments, venereal disease and delinquent road time. The WPA was a United States government program established to provide jobs for the unemployed during the great depression of the 1930’s. While it is best known for projects involving government infrastructure, it also included a program for transcribing and preserving historical records, many from county court houses. These transcriptions were usually duplicated by mimeograph, or by typewriter with carbon copies. Copies were distributed to national, state and local repositories. (1940) 2013.
